It's official; we're coffee junkies. So upon discovering Singapore's OUE Downtown Gallery had plenty of new Java joints opening we were excited to check them out, especially because we work just around the corner at The Working Capitol. While there's a raft of new cafes at OUE that we think are worth a visit (hello Omotesando Coffee, The Providore, and 6 oz Coffee Bar), it's LUNAR Coffee Brewers that we're currently obsessed with. We'd even go as far to say it's topping our list of fave places to visit nearby for a quick cuppa and something to eat.
Why you should come here:
The cafe is sleek — as are all of the lifestyle venues in the building — with a calming colour palette of dark greys, midnight blues, and white marble counters and tabletops. House tunes play in the background, and the overall vibe is relaxed, yet buzzy. Grab a seat at the counter facing the windows for views of the world outside, or snag a seat at one of the communal tables to escape the hustle and bustle. Importantly, the coffee here comes from Atlas Coffeehouse (who are the brains behind this venture), so it’s on point whatever you're in the mood for, be it a chilled cold brew bottle or an espresso creation.
What we love:
The menu is small, making it a quick and easy stop for lunch. We had the miso-nori salmon soba ($14.50) with poached salmon, miso-nori butter, an onsen egg, and pickled vegetables piled atop silky soba noodles. It was really tasty, but we were still hungry afterwards, so we suggest ordering a side of munchies if you’re in the mood for something a little more filling. Sides include truffle fries, chilli beef nachos and tator tots with herbed dip.
The coffee is delicious, and we'll be going back for morning coffee meetings and to try some of its breakfast dishes like the everyday shashuka ($13.50) with onsen eggs, chorizo in a herb tomato ragout, spiced dukkah and toasted sourdough. It also have some good looking sweet treats like the Earl Grey frozen yogurt ($5.90) and Milky Way soft serve ($5.90) with shortbread crumble.
If you want a place to work or have a meeting, we do NOT recommend coming here during lunch or anytime close to the end of the day. The cafe is located at one entrance of the new tower, so during lunch there is a non-stop flow of people coming in and out. But if you like a cafe with a little bit of a bustling vibe during your lunch hour, this is a great spot. Outside of peak hours, the flow of people coming in and out is much more bearable.
About $25++ for a coffee and a meal.
For all those who work, live, or play in the CBD; we’re adding Lunar Coffee Brewers to our list of Top 50 Cafes.
