Papi’s Tacos

Papi’s Tacos has only been open since late-July, but it’s already become a fast favourite of ours. Brought to us by the good folks at Employee’s Only, this hole-in-the-wall taqueria on Seah Street brings to mind some of the cool little Mexican joints we used to frequent back in NYC. The vibes are laid-back, the menu is small and straightforward, and the food is rustic, handmade, and authentic.

 

Our experience:

 

This 30-seater space is small, but it’s got loads of character with bright posters on the walls and colourful tiles fronting the L-shaped bar. We came with a group of three our first time, so grabbed a seat at the bar to watch the kitchen in action. You can also chill outside in the cosy al fresco area if you can't snag a seat at the bar. We’ve actually been twice, so we've gotten to sample quite a bit from the menu including the burritos and most of the tacos and quesadillas. Our faves are the fish tacos, which are grilled instead of fried for a healthier twist. The mushroom quesadillas and chicken tacos are also awesome.

Would we go back?

 

Yep. It’s one of those no-brainer, easy spots with honest food that’s fresh, flavourful, and tastes homemade. This is a great spot for when you're craving tacos and tequila after work. We foresee this place being super busy in the not-so-distant future, so get in now before you have to line up and wait.

Look out for Papi's ghost chili sauce! You’ve been warned.

If you’re drinking and eating as a group like we usually do, you could easily spend $100++ a head.
