Trattoria Amanda

It may be smack dab in the middle of Singapore's CBD, but Trattoria Amanda has none of the pomp and circumstance that so many other restaurants in the area flaunt. Instead, this authentic trattoria has a family-run feel and offers up a menu of rustic Italian comfort food that'll be reassuringly familiar to all. Swing by for one of their enticing set lunches, or pop in after work for some vino, Italian craft beers, and tasty homemade pizzas, pasta, and risottos.

Why you should come here:

Sometimes it’s the simple things that keep you coming back for more. At Trattoria Amanda, chef-owner Salvatore Catalano—previously of La Noce—keeps things easy-going with comfortable wooden interiors, warm and welcoming service, and a great selection of classic Italian offerings like pizza, pasta, salads, plus grilled meats and fish. This is the type of place where you can settle in for a while whether you’re dining solo, on a date, or having dinner with friends.

What we love:

We went for a weekday lunch, so didn’t eat a crazy amount, but we had enough to know that the food is simply superb and that we’ll definitely be back. Plus, it’s always nice to be greeted by the owner of a dining venue, especially when he or she is as friendly and hospitable as Chef Salvatore was.

On Chef Salvatore’s recommendation, we tried the classic Italian bruschetta ($14) to start, which came with vibrant tomatoes seasoned with basil and served on crusty bread. For mains we opted for the ravioli formaggi ($36), a rich, creamy blend of burrata, mascarpone, and radicchio cheeses, and the linguini vongole salsa di vino blanco ($28), which btw, contained the most perfectly cooked clams peering out of the white wine sauce.

UJ Tidbit:

The set lunches are decent value at $28++ for an antipasti selection, a main, and dessert including coffee or tea. If you’re planning on coming by in the evening, head to the trattoria between 5pm and 8pm everyday for specials on aperitivos before your meal; opt for a classic Aperol Spritz or limoncello on the rocks.

An appetizer and a main will set you back about $40++ to $50++, not including drinks.
