RIVER VALLEY & KAMPONG GLAM - With a carefully curated wine list featuring reasonably priced bottles around the world, a special counter dedicated to Iberico and cheese, and modern European comfort dishes like Belgian-style fries, grilled Spanish octopus, and tatins, there is much to love at 13% Gastro Wine Bar. Come here for sips and snacks, join one of their master wine classes, or book into their private wine room for special events.
Why you should come here:
Owners Bruno Vaillant and award-winning chef Geoffrey Weckx both have 25 years experience working with wines, so their ever-changing wine list features top picks from their favourite vineyards in places as diverse as France, Australia, Portugal and Italy. Glasses start at just $10 and the bottles come in price ranges to suit all budgets. Pair your vino with shared plates like cheese and meat boards and you’ve got all the elements for a leisurely lunch or after-work catch-up.
What we love:
If you need an easy-going wine bar in River Valley, this is your spot. We haven’t checked out the one on Arab Street yet, but we’re sure it has the same quality offerings like affordable wines that you can mix and match with light bites like the Gougeres with three cheeses in a puff pastry served with a roasted tomato garlic dip, or the Tomato Tatin with confit tomatoes, roasted pine nuts, burrata cheese, basil and a balsamic reduction.
Definitely get the cheese because they have an awesome selection that includes Reblochon, Camembert, and Summer Beaufort to name just a few. Be sure to ask your server for his or her suggestions on which wines to pair with your cheese selection. And if you want to learn more about vino yourself, sign up for their newsletter to get all the details on their regular weekend wine master classes.
Glasses of wine start at $10 and dishes start at $8 for small bites and go up to $58 for the bounteous Meat Board with duck, pork rillette, pork terrine, chorizo and Iberico ham.
