With a motto like ‘for alcohols by alcoholics’, you get a pretty good idea of what Gem Bar is all about. Set in a historic conservation shophouse on Ann Siang Hill, this is an easy and accessible place to get your drink on in the Club Street area. Grab a seat on the street-level patio for a spot of people watching, head upstairs to the second level for live bands and DJs, or shoot some stick at the pool tables on the top floor.
Why you should come here:
Gem Bar always pulls in a pretty lively crowd from after-work drinkers to weekend warriors looking to quaff a few beers and down a few shots to get the party started. They prices are pretty decent for the area, and they’ve got awesome drink specials on every day of the week except for Sundays when they close for recuperation. Want some bites to go with your beers? They’ve also got easy-going pub grub like crispy chicken wings and burgers.
What we love:
The vibe here is super buzzy and conducive to hanging out for the evening with a group of friends, or even rocking up to yourself and meeting new people. Besides offering a good selection of bottled beers and premium spirits, they’ve also got some pretty tempting sangrias, bellinis and Asian-inspired cocktails on the menu. We like the Subtle Star with pear vodka, starfruit, cucumber and grape juice. For bar bites you can’t go wrong with the Crispy Popcorn Chicken and the Truffle Fries with parmesan.
UJ Tidbit:
Try to make it for their ‘Crazy Hours’ between 4pm and 7pm when house pours and half pints of Asahi are just $5++ and full pints of Asahi go for $10++. They also have different drink specials every day, so check out their promotions on the website to see what the deal of the day is.
