CHINATOWN - Bordeaux lovers are in for a treat at Grignoter, Southeast Asia’s first Bordeaux-only wine bar opened by eminent chef Justin Quek in cooperation with the Bordeaux Wine Council. Here Chef Justin indulges his passion for this world-famous wine-growing region with handpicked bottles for all types of budget, as well as French delicacies like freshly shucked oysters, foie gras and steak frites.
Why you should come here:
Oenophiles are already going crazy for this place, as the wine list features everything from big fat cab savs to silky merlots and crisp Sauvignon Blancs, many at very reasonable prices. Don’t be intimidated by the wine-centric concept though because the space and staff are pretty unpretentious, the prices are decent and everyone is welcome to have a seat at the convivial bar and enjoy sips and nibbles.
What we love:
Of course the vino is great, but the menu is also pretty enticing with dishes like the Spinach and Lardon Salad with a crispy molten-centred egg atop greens and ample slices of lardon, the gourmet Croque Monsieur that comes just oozing with cheese and the Chicken Liver Skewers in a tangy red wine glaze. They even have sweet treats for those who fancy some sugar like the Caneles and the Oeufs a la Neige featuring fluffy meringue in a smooth creme Anglaise. We suggest making an evening of it here with some small plates to share accompanied by a bottle of wine of your choosing or a few pairings suggested by the staff.
If you’re not sure about navigating the wine list on your own, rest assured that the staff here know exactly what they’re doing. Just let them know what your preferences are, and they will hook you up with some solid recommendations.
Bottles of wine start at $28++ and small plates start at $6++.
