O Batignolles

by URBAN JOURNEY

**O’Batignolles has closed (sad face)! Though all is not lost; it is due to emerge, like a phoenix from the flames, in a nearby location soon. We’ll update you once it’s back up and running**

Set up like a Parisian cafe but without the snootiness, Ô Batignolles is one of our favourite spots for a few glasses of vino and amazing French cheeses and charcuterie. The cafe pays homage to the trendy Les Batignolles neighbourhood in Paris with dark wooden tables that spill out onto the street and the French owners source all their wines from small batch wineries in France. Expect authentic French fare, really good wine and an easy-going and inviting atmosphere – anddefinitely a good spot if you’re looking for somewhere with a good buzz

Why you should come here:

This is a great spot to catch up over a few glasses of wine while you watch the world go by on happening Gemmill Lane. The owners make regular trips to France where they seek out independent winemakers who take pride and passion in their craft, so you won’t find any swill here, only primo vinos at very reasonable prices. The food is also pretty decent French favourites like the Nicoise Salad, French Burger with a homemade burger patty, Morbier cheese and truffle fries, and the Duck Parmentier, a duck confit shepherd’s pie with mashed potato.

What we love:

Ô Batignolles is just all-around inviting from the open-air concept to the charming interiors with blackboards set up proclaiming the specials, and the hearty food. And if you love cheeses as much as we do, then you’ll enjoy their gourmet selections that are flown in fresh every week. Pair your morbier and bleu d’auvergne with tasty cold cuts like saucisson and duck rillettes, add a glass of fruity Bordeaux or citrus-scented Chablis and you’ll be in heaven.

UJ Tidbit:

Ô Batignolles does a fabulous Parisian-style brunch on the weekends from 10am to 4pm with free-flow croissants, eggs any way you like them and add-on options like the Quiche Lorraine, Croque Monsieur and Goats Cheese Salad. You can also brighten up your brunch with champagne at $12++ a glass or $60++ a bottle.

Damage:

Glasses of wine start at about $8++ a glass, and the mixed cold cut and cheese assortment is $34++. Tapas range from $9++ to $26++, mains range from $14++ to $30++, and the brunch set goes for $32++ per person.
