Highlander Coffee

by URBAN JOURNEY

Back in 2004, brothers Phil and Cedric Ho began selling wholesale coffee and espresso machines to offices and cafes, and soon after they saw the need for professional barista workshops. After training up coffee aficionados around the city, they opened their own cafe where they could showcase their house-roasted coffees prepared with quality equipment and a whole lot of skill. Highlander Coffee was one of the first third-wave coffee joints to open in town, and they still have a great reputation for superb coffees and service.

Why you should come here:

Being pioneers in the Singapore coffee scene, these guys really know what they’re doing. Their beans come from quality plantations in coffee growing regions as varied as Brazil, Columbia, Sumatra and Ethiopia, their equipment is top-notch, and their passion shines through in every espresso they and their baristas pull.

What we love:

We’ve never had a bad coffee here, as each pour has come out smooth, aromatic and full of flavour. It helps that they hand roast their beans in house and that the staff are super friendly and helpful, so they can walk you through the options and help create the perfect cup for your exact tastes. The food is not bad either, although the menu is slightly limited. Try the Chicken Ciabatta Smoked Duck Sandwich or Baked Chicken Mushroom Macaroni.

UJ tidbit:

Looking for some sweet new gadgets to up your coffee game? Highlander offers a range of cool espresso machines, grinders, and filters at their retail shop in the cafe. They also offer barista workshops and coffee appreciation classes for both the public and professionals alike.
