This Aussie styled cafe was created by a Melbourne native who was missing the great coffee and cafe culture of his hometown. Located in a quiet area of town (but a bit of a trek to get out to for downtowners), the space is small but has high ceilings and a range of seating either at the barista bar, the long communal wooden table or the leather sofa and armchairs. Choose from lattes, capps and espressos, as well as breakfast dishes, sandwiches and pastas.
Why you should come here:
The coffee here is roasted in house and pulled on a Slayer espresso machine, which was the first of its kind in Singapore. The house blend changes every month to coincide with the seasons, and the fresh green beans come from Rainforest Alliance farms. If all that coffee has you flying high, you can come back down to earth with a huge hearty breakfast with all the fixings, or a creamy milkshake with a boozy kick.
What we love:
You can opt to have your coffee made with the Slayer machine, French press, syphon or pour over style, and can choose from all manner of styles including espresso, affogato, mocha, cappuccino and latte. For food they have a wide range of breakfast offerings like the Scrambled Eggs with smoked salmon and Brioche French Toast. Heartier dishes include the Spaghetti with chorizo sausage and spinach, and the Grilled Salmon Gremolata.
UJ tidbit:
Jimmy Monkey is a bit pricier than your average cafe, but the coffee is great and the food is decent. We suggest heading here for their Lazy Weekend Brunches when you can chill out with good friends over good food and perhaps indulge in one or two of their alcoholic milkshakes.
