Johan Paris

by URBAN JOURNEY

Brought to us straight from Japan, this enticing bakery chain features French style breads and pastries made with fresh Japanese ingredients like yuzu, melon and matcha. There are two locations in Singapore: one in Jurong East, and the second at the newly renovated Isetan Scotts, which has been revamped by design companies from Tokyo to give guests a true Japanese department store shopping experience.

Why you should come here:

If you’re in the mood for crusty baguettes, flaky croissants and decadent treats like caramel pretzels, red bean buns and tarts filled with custard and fresh fruit, Johan Paris is a good bet. The selection changes on a daily basis and often features seasonal creations like apple and chestnut French bread, strawberry mochi bread with macadamia nuts, and the honey caramel nutty pastry.

What we love:

The chocolate bread is definitely worth the wait in the lines (which there always seem to be whenever we go). If you’re in the Isetan Scotts location, grab some of the yuzu bread that is exclusive to this locale.

UJ Tidbit:

Those in the know check out the board on display that tells you exactly when various items are going to be baked. That way you can do some shopping and then swing by the cafe just as the piping hot items are pulled out of the oven. Trust us—the breads taste way better when you can smell their aroma wafting through the air and feel the warmth emanating off each bite.

Damage:

$2.50 – $4.50 per pastry or bread.
