Punch

by URBAN JOURNEY

BOAT QUAY – Contemporary and chic with a cool air-conditioned interior done up in minimalist white and grey hues and an outdoor courtyard awash in natural sunlight and greenery, Punch is the latest venture by the design-savvy team behind Ronin. In the morning it’s all about espressos, bite-sized doughnuts, and egg and toast dishes, and at lunch and dinner there are some great classy comfort food creations.

Why you should come here:

The Brew Bar in the back opens up at 8am, and this is a great spot to grab a hit of caffeine and slowly come to life on one of the wooden benches in the courtyard surrounded by the vertical gardens on the walls. The coffee is decent, and the sweet treats make for a sinfully good snack. If you’re looking for something a bit more substantial, head inside for breakfast dishes like the Earl Grey Pancakes with white chocolate macadamia crumble and poached pear, or lunch and dinner bites like the Black Mussels with white wine, garlic, chilli and toasted sourdough, or the Rump Steak with bernaise and watercress.

What we love:

The interiors are fresh and modern with large swathes of white interspersed with muted greys, and cool grey and white tiles on the floor. Big windows allow lots of natural light to flow in, so you don’t necessarily need to head outside to get that outdoor feel. On the menu we love the Poached Egg Avocado Toast, as it’s always a safe and delicious option, and the Grilled Sea Bass is also nice and light with a side of fresh greens and a vibrant mango salsa.

UJ Tidbit:

If you want to taste the unique flavours of single origin coffees, try the filter coffees that are brewed either V60 or Chemex style. Depending on the season, you can sample beans from coffee growing regions like Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia or Costa Rica.

Damage:

About $20++ for coffee and food.
