We Travelled Down Under and Discovered this Amazing Foodie Town

by URBAN JOURNEY

When it comes to long weekend vacays, we’re kinda spoilt for choice.Fly for two hoursin any direction and you’ll find yourself in a glamorous spot, be itBali, Thailand,Vietnam, or a beautiful Malaysian island. But sometimes, we want a proper holiday (and by that we mean one that lasts longer than a weekend!). And Australia is up there on our destination of choice thanks to it’sbuzzy cities, beautiful beaches, and the endless wineries. We recently took a road trip along the east coast and fell in love with Berry; a historic town located on a lovely bay 145 km south ofSydney. The beaches and mountains nearby are the main draw, but the town also offers tons of great cafes, restaurants, and hotels to explore. Here’re our top picks of where to hit up if you find yourself passing through.

Breakfast

Berry Sourdough Bakery & Cafe

Housed in a building dating back to 1895, Berry Sourdough Bakery & Cafe sports rustic interiors infused with the aromas of freshly baked bread. Every day the team here bakes their famous sourdough bread in special woodfired ovens along with pastries, cakes, and savoury breakfast and lunch dishes. We’re huge fans of their coffee and love that they source their produce locally from farmers and fishers committed to sustainability.

The Burrowsof Berry

Vintage is the vibe at The Burrows of Berry, a funky cafe set in an old blacksmiths shop. Settle into one of the camel hide chairs and peruse the menu for brekky breads, fresh salads, and hearty dinner fare. The rustic, yet contemporary dishes feature fresh, seasonal ingredients, and they even smoke their own meats in house. Some of our faves include the chickpea and eggplant curry with a tangy date and tamarind relish, and the skirt steak with shoestring fries.

Be sure to try one of their homemade condiments on the side like the beetroot and red wine relish or the caramelised pomegranate balsamic glaze.
