It’s that time of year again when foodies from far and wide flock to Singapore to celebrate all things culinary. Now in its 22nd year, the annual World Gourmet Summit is one of the biggest food and wine festivals in the region and a fantastic opportunity to see what’s hot and happening in the global gastronomic landscape. Running from April 2 to April 29, expect a myriad of unique events including decadent dinners, hands-on cooking classes, workshops, and demos by top chefs from around the world.
The theme at the World Gourmet Summit this year is The Discovery WGS, which aims to take diners off the beaten track to explore some the world’s lesser known and exciting cuisines. Not only will you get to sample sensational dishes you may never have tried before, but you can also gain insights into the latest trending cuisines from top foodie experts.
What not to miss
From 16 to 21 April, look out for the Masterchef Dining Delights Promotion, where you’ll get the chance to sample foodie treats from an illustrious group of international chefs in some of Singapore’s top restaurants. And this year, the line up is what foodie dreams are made of. Think Raymond Blanc (French gastronomy legend, no further intro required), Patrizia di Benedetto (the first and only female Sicilian chef with a Michelin star), Kevin Thornton (Ireland’s only two-star Michelin chef), and Ross Lusted (Australia’s two-hatted star chef).
Throughout the WGS events are taking place pretty much daily at venues around the city. A few that we’ve got our eyes on include the Discovery Brunch at Tamarind HIll on 8 April (an epic brunch-y celebration of food and wine); Hommage à Paul Bocuse with Julien Royer at Odette on 11 April (an exquisite heritage dinner that explores French cuisine); the UNGA event at Chijmes on 15 April (a fun all-day event that will turn the cluster of restaurants and bars at CHIJMES into a gourmet marketplace); and The Hungarian Tasting Table at La Brasserie, The Fullerton Bay Hotel on 16 April (a unique Hungarian dining experience presented by Chef Péter Szabó of Budapest’s highly acclaimed La Parilla).
