Afterglow (GF, VG, V)
Who says vegan and gluten-free cuisine must be boring? Afterglow aims to bring sexy back to veggies with raw, vibrant plant-based dishes made with locally sourced produce. The space is warm and inviting with soft lighting, wooden tables, and eclectic artworks. Order a cuppa made with Common Man Coffee Roasters beans, then dig into guilt-free dishes like the avocado kimchi rolls and drag-pom salad loaded with raw fruits and veggies. We’re also fans of the raw pizzas, and raw lasagne; even non-vegans would approve!

Nearly everything that comes out of the kitchen is gluten-free and made with organic veggies and sustainably sourced seafood and meats. Brightly done up in all white with breezy al fresco seating, Carrotsticks & Cravings is one of our favourite new Dempsey Hill haunts. The menu suits all sorts of diets including gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, and vegan. The organic acai berry bowl is a great breakfast bet, while the organic lentil and dukkah roasted pumpkin salad is a solid lunch dish that will fill you up without weighing you down. You can also grab healthy sweets and snacks to go.
After years of living a not-so-healthy lifestyle as she worked in the corporate world, Elika Tasker decided to set out on a holistic clean-eating path, and that journey led her to create Kitchen by Food Rebel in the heart of the CBD. The concept here is clean wholesome food for all types of eaters including those with food sensitivities. Think raw salads, hearty GF bowls packed with veggies and hormone-free meats, grilled fish, and pastas that swap out noodles for zoodles.

Real Food (GF, VG, V)
Real Food now has three locations around Singapore, but we’re still fans of the flagship Orchard Central locale that’s part bookshop, part cafe, and part retail shop where you can buy healthy eats to take home. We love grabbing a seat next to the floor-to-ceiling windows and indulging in its awesome cakes and cookies that you can’t even tell are gluten-free. They also have a decent selection of vegan bites, but check the menu carefully (non-GF treats are still available).

Fun, funky, and featuring fresh Mexican flavours, Lucha Loco is a primo spot for after-work drinks and bites. The great thing about the menu here is that dishes containing gluten are clearly marked, and there are surprisingly few of them, which means you have tons of enticing options to choose from. Start with a blood orange and guava margarita before digging into the likes of ceviche, corn tacos with carne asada, and pimped out salads.

You can expect the same thoughtful labelling of all the dishes containing gluten on the menu, and tons of shared plates and hearty mains made with fresh veggies and marinated seafood and meats. We’re totally crushing on the elotes (grilled corn with chipotle mayo) and the pescado tacos with marinated snapper.

And in a rare move not seen in too many other fine-dining spots, the chef has created an entire extra menu dedicated to gluten-free plates like the pan-fried kurobuta cutlet in Mongolian sauce and wok-fried prawns with shimeji mushrooms and black garlic. You might expect it to cost a small fortune, but actually the prices are reasonable.
