Best Restaurants for a Business Lunch in the CBD

Hawker stalls and take-away salads are fine for your day-to-day lunch break fare, but when you’ve got clients in town or need to discuss important business matters over a meal, something a bit more elegant is in order. For those in need of a sophisticated business lunch spot, these restaurants win big points with us for their ambiance, service and cuisine.

Angeleno

Classic Italian-American cuisine is the focus at Angeleno, a joint venture by Chef David Almany (formerly of Osteria Mozza) and Travis Masiero of Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chophouse. Inside dark wood contrasts nicely with the marble-topped bar and the white linen tablecloths, and smartly dressed waiters bring out rustic starters like the Antipasti Platter with cold cuts, cheeses and olives, artisan pastas like the Maine Lobster Spaghetti, and succulent seafood and meats. They also have great classic cocktails if you’re planning on going all out.

Binomio means ‘pair’ in Spanish, which is fitting considering this Spanish restaurant is divided into two sections: a chilled out tapas bar and a fine-dining restaurant replete with white linen tablecloths, gleaming wine glasses and good service. If you're looking for a private room, book into the upscale dining room in the back. Whatever you do, be sure to end your meal with the churros.

Sushi Mitsuya

Ask any Japanese expat in Singapore for a list of their favourite sushi spots, and Sushi Mitsuya will most likely come up on that list. The minimalist decor here allows you to fully focus on Chef Ryosuke Harada’s creations, which include delicate slices of sashimi and plump pieces of sushi made with ridiculously fresh seafood like chutoro fatty tuna, anago sea eel and hotate scallop. There’s definitely a reason that this place scored a mention in the Michelin Guide Singapore.

terra

Treat your clients to something special with an omakase set lunch at terra, a one Michelin-starred spot serving Tokyo-Italian cuisine. Chef-owner Seita Nakahara, who trained in Tuscany, Sicily and Piedmont, is quick to point out that Tokyo-Italian cuisine is not Japanese-Italian fusion, but rather Italian cuisine made with fresh Japanese ingredients. Think house-cured bottarga made with mullet roe, bruschetta topped with Hokkaido sea urchin, and ocean trout carpaccio.
