6 Roast Dinners You Can’t Miss

by URBAN JOURNEY

While we may have an affinity fordecadent brunches, leisurely lunches, andwine-fuelleddinners, we have to admit that you just can’t beat a roast dinner when you’re in the mood for hearty, homestyle food. After all, who can resist succulentslow-roasted meatsand classic sides like yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, and cauliflower gratin slathered in gravy? Lucky for us Singapore has a handful of spots where you can indulge in great roasts with all the fixings. From classic British-style Sunday roast dinners to edgy eateries serving up roast meats with Asian spices and sauces, old-school fine-dining grill rooms, and cosy hole-in-the-wall spots where the vibes are just as comforting as the food, these are a few of our favourite places to indulge in oh-so-satisfying roast dinners.

Butcher Boy

Who says roast dinners are only for the weekends? Certainly not chef Andy Walsh of Butcher Boy (andCurea few doors down), who offers up succulent grilled meats, fish, and veggies every day of the week in this dark and cosy Keong Saik spot. Think Welsh lamb rump, whole Vietnamese style fish, and the Black Angus Tender Valley rib eye grilled to perfection with Asian-inspired sides and sauces like the XO fried rice and yuzu bearnaise.

Butcher Boy, 31 Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089138. p. +65 8752 9578. Open Wed – Fri 12pm – 3pm, daily 5pm – 12am

Gordon Grill

It’s all about old school charm at Gordon Grill, a meat lover’s institution that’s been holding fort at the Goodwood Park Hotel since 1963. The service here is superb with spiffily dressed waiters bringing the signature meat trolley right to your table so you can pick your cut of meat and watch as they slice and weigh it before taking it to the kitchen to grill to your liking. The weekend roast lunch is great value at $55++ for three courses or $65++ for four courses.

LeVel 33

Beer and roast meats are a no-brainer combo, and we can’t think of a better place to pair the two than at LeVel 33, the highest urban microbrewery in the world. Like the name suggests, this chic spot sits on the 33rd floor of the Marina Bay Financial Centre, offering sweeping views of MBS and the CBD skyline. The divine Sunday roast includes a range of dishes like the roast beef, lemon sole, or baked cauliflower with classic European sides and craft beer pairing suggestions.

Summer Hill

We love the easy-going vibes at Summerhill, a cosy and utterly unpretentious spot by chef Anthony Yeoh that does some of the most amazing roast chicken we’ve had so far in Singapore. Sidle up to the counter and place your order, then grab a seat on the patio and pop open a bottle of vino (cheers to no corkage fees!) and wait for the servers to bring you a glorious serving of golden roast bird with seasonal sides and to-die-for gravy.
