Your Orchard Road shopping day has been a success so far. You’ve dodged the crowds, hit the shops with stealth speed and scored yourself some great deals. However, you now find yourself in the unenviable position of being in the midst of the fray with shoppings bags weighing you down and your energy resources seriously depleting. As Singapore whirls around you, you realise there is only one thing that can keep you moving—a re-energising cup of Joe. But where to go? Finding good coffee on Orchard hasn't been easy, but after many a year of scouring the streets, we've finally managed to find some stellar spots for a cracking cup of Java.
The Assembly Ground
This quirky cafe is an offshoot of The Assembly Store, and it offers a chilled out vibe with warm wooden tables, bicycles hanging from the walls, and exposed pipes running along the ceiling. Their coffee comes from Common Man Coffee Roasters and Nylon Coffee, and the servers will even pair your coffee with your food order to enhance your sipping experience. Plus, their extensive menu of breakfast dishes, soups, salads, pizzas and plates of pasta makes this a great spot to stop by any time of the day.
These guys take their beverages very seriously, as is evident as soon as you step inside the beautifully designed space. The seven stations throughout the cafe include a hand-brew coffee bar, a tea academics bar and a roasting corner on site. Besides great coffee made from premium beans from around the world, The Coffee Academics also offers sumptuous breakfast and lunch dishes like pancakes, scrambled eggs with crayfish, and vibrant fish tacos, plus there is a coffee concierge on hand to help you create your own bespoke blend.
The name may fool you, but Caveau is actually a cosy cafe by day and intimate wine bar by night. They open at 12 pm daily and serve one of our favourite brews—Papa Palheta coffee. Rich, aromatic and full of flavour, a cup of PP is a great way to start your day or give you a much-needed boost in the afternoon. The best part is that come 5 pm you can lug your weary shopaholic bones here and grab a seat at the bar or one of the tables in back for glasses of wine starting at $12 a glass, bottles for $50 and up, and delectable bites from nearby Bistro du Vin or Annam Vietnamese Cuisine.
Legions of fans swear by Jewel Coffee, so when this bright and cheery coffee house opened their fourth branch on Orchard, it was busy from the get-go. It’s all about third-wave coffee here, so you can expect a variety of aromatic blends in the form of lattes, cappuccinos, and iced caffeine creations. Grab a seat in the atrium outside for some morning brekky or a mid-day coffee or lunch break, or come by later in the day for craft beers and special dinner offerings.
Although Oriole is located a bit farther down Orchard, you would be missing out on a whole lot of great things if you passed up a trip to this eclectic cafe and watering hole. By day, the sunlight gleams off of the brass chandeliers, the leather booths beckon you in for leisurely lunches, and the heavenly aroma of freshly roasted coffee wafts both inside and out. The award-winning baristas here brew up a mean cup with only the finest Arabica beans globally sourced for their high quality and the farmer’s social and environmental responsibility. They even have wifi here if you need to catch up on some work, and if you roll in after dark, handcrafted cocktails await.

Get your Java fix, indulge in super healthy and filling fare and grab some things for your pantry at the same time at this Orchard Road gourmet market and cafe. Located centrally in Mandarin Gallery, this is the perfect spot for a break from the shops, as the high ceilings and light wood tables give it a warm and welcoming vibe, they have free wifi, and the food is delicious and affordable. We love the Open Face BLT and Ricotta Pancakes. Plus they have customised blends of coffee available, and even bags of beans that you can enjoy it at home.

This New York style delicatessen not only serves up great brews from Common Man Coffee Roasters, but they also offer an authentic taste of the Big Apple with delicious dishes like house-cured pastrami, matzo ball soup, latkes, strudels and bagels. Take a break from the shops and pop in for a cuppa and a light bite, or grab a group of friends and dig into one of their decadent smoked meat, smoked fish, or dips platters.
Finally one of our favourite coffee shops and bakeries has sprung up on Orchard! So if you’re on an epic shopping mission and your sugar levels are dropping, stop by the new Tiong Bahru Bakery at CK Tangs for heavenly cakes, croissants, tarts and sandwiches and a zippy cup of 40 Hands coffee.
Wild Honey is one of our favourite coffee stops on Orchard Road mainly because they have an awesome custom coffee blend made just for them from Common Man Coffee Roasters. Used in all coffees ordered black, we highly suggest trying it as is; the flavours are so good you really don’t need to add anything to it. They also do fabulous breakfast and brunch dishes that range from decadent full monty feasts to healthy California style plates, plus some sweet treats thrown in for good measure.
