New Restaurant Intel: June 2018

June is already shaping up to be a phenomenal month for foodies with a slew of new spots opening up in all sorts of hoods across the island. In this issue of New Restaurant Intel, we take a look at classy and casual cafes where you can grab mind-blowing coffee and brunches, contemporary Chinese spots taking traditional dishes to the next level, a hip and happening wine bar, and enticing eateries offering up seafood, Spanish tapas, and good ol’ comfort food. One thing’s for sure—you’re going to need to take your belt out a few notches with all this insanely good food and drink on offer.

Clan Cafe

Classy, contemporary, and offering up killer Papa Palheta coffee and nourishing nosh, Clan Cafe is an elegant new addition to the stylish Straits Clan members club. The cafe is open to the public and oh-so inviting with Peranakan-inspired tiles, a bright floral mural, and comfy chairs perfect for chilling out or talking business. The menu includes all-day dishes like the miso salmon grain bowl and otah sandwich with mackerel, prawn and comte on brioche, while bevvies range from homemade kombucha to artisan teas, craft beers, and cocktails.

Seafood fanatics will be happy to know that Greenwood Fish Market has opened another locale in Valley Point Shopping Centre and it’s pretty freaking sweet. The spacious dining room has plenty of room to spread out, so you can gather your gang and dig into shared small plates like oysters on ice, fried calamari, and pan-seared scallops, plus platters of seafood plucked fresh from the displays and cooked to order. They also have a retail section with superb seafood to go, a sashimi counter, and a wine shop on site.
