New Restaurant Intel: November 2017

There’s always something exciting happening in Singapore’s F&B scene, and we make it our mission to find the hottest new openings around town that are worth putting on your foodie bucket list. This month we cover two new dining venues at the InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay, as well as solid lineup of cool restaurants in a variety of hoods offering up good food, good drinks and good vibes.

Blackwattle

Australian chef Clayton Wells of Automata in Sydney has just opened a sleek little spot on Amoy Street where he brings us modern Aussie cuisine in a relaxed fine-dining setting. Settle into one of the leather banquettes and dig into dishes like the tasty Kingfish Tartare with capers, crème fraiche, yuzu kosho and plum or the Black Angus Shortrib with carrot and kelp puree served with a dill pickle on the side. Not in the mood for a full-on meal? Head upstairs to the bar for chic cocktails and elevated bar snacks.

Comida Mexicana

New to East Coast Road is Comida Mexicana, a colourful spot serving up classic Mexican dishes made from scratch with premium imported and local ingredients. Start with a super cold, slushy pink guava margarita, and then move on to vibrant dishes like the crispy Enrollados stuffed with chicken and Monterey Jack cheese and topped with tomatoes and housemade guac, or the Carne Asada platter featuring steak marinated in brandy, tequila and orange juice.

La Pepa

Spanish tapas are the focus at La Pepa, a brand new spot on trendy Gemmill Lane. Small plates include the Toasta La Pepa with Spanish cured anchovies resting atop marinated piquillo peppers and eggplant on sourdough toast, the Mushroom Croquettas with wild mushrooms and thyme, and the Albondigas (meatballs) in a tangy tomato sauce with Manchego cheese. For something heartier, try their Arroz Negra paella with squid-ink infused rice piled with succulent seafood and aioli.

Enjoy contemporary Asian fusion food at this new spot in Icon Village which combines the cultures of America, Vietnam and Japan. Look out for their extensive selection of sake along a 7 meter wall alongisde dishes like Chicken Katsu tacos, Pork Jowl Bahn Mi and others. Come in day or night for a unique experience in the heart of Tanjong Pagar.

Pastaria Abate

You can’t beat handmade pasta, especially if it’s made with fine Italian flour and topped with homemade, slow-cooked sauces. Pastaria Abate does exactly that, cooking up fresh batches of pasta everyday along with vibrant sauces like tangy marinara, truffle carbonara and earthy porcini. Not sure how best to mix and match? Your server can give great recommendations on pasta and sauce pairing combos. Besides pasta, they also offer classic Italian dishes like Minestrone Soup, Steak Florentine and Pollo Toscano.

Publico

Located in the Intercontinental Singapore Robertson Quay, Publico is actually three different concepts under one roof, all with rustic Italian vibes. Publico Deli opens early for coffee and pastries, then stays open late for all-day breakfast dishes, boozy lunches and desserts. Publico Ristorante offers al fresco dining next to the river and family-style Italian dishes like antipasto, pizzas and pastas. After dinner, make your way to Marcello bar for fine Italian spirits and wines.

Trattoria Amanda

Another new addition to Stanley Street is a new authentic Italian restaurant. Indulge in a variety of pizzas, pastas and even calzones whether it be during your lunch break or after work. There is also a great selection of wines and beers on offer.

Another dining option in the InterContinental at Robertson Quay, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse comes to us by way of New York and specializes in succulent U.S.D.A. prime steaks dry-aged in the on-site\ for 28 days. The Porterhouse is a definite must if you’re with a group or come as a very hungry duo. Pair your steak with delicious sides like sauteed mushrooms, creamed spinach or lobster mac n’ cheese. They also have a great wine list and lighter apps like freshly shucked oysters and crab cakes.
