665 Degrees

Named after the temperature of the Pira oven and grill that sits at the centre of its open-plan kitchen, 665 Degrees is a contemporary steakhouse nestled on Level 38 of the all-new Andaz Singapore hotel in Kampong Glam. We’d caught wind that not only were the views spectacular, but the seafood and steaks coming out of the kitchen were really rather good (not quite up there withLuke’sorCUT, but solid nonetheless). So off we trotted to see what all the fuss was about, and we were pleasantly surprised with what we found.

Why you should come here:

Step inside the cosy 30-seater space and you’ll find high ceilings, dark wood tables, leather-backed chairs, and huge windows offering jaw-dropping views of Singapore’s skyscrapers. In the main dining room, everyone has front row seats to the open kitchen, but if you really want to soak up the scenery, try to get into one of the smaller private rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows. No matter where you sit though, the menu is the same with seafood-centric light bites to start and chargrilled, halal-certified meats and sustainably sourced seafood for mains.

What we love:

665 Degrees doesn’t take reservations after 7:30pm, so when we arrived at the hotel lobby on the 25th floor, we took the direct lift up to the restaurant to put our names on the list and were told we’d get a call when our table was ready. To kill the time, we had a drink at the lobby bar and indulged in some stellar hummus and babaganoush while admiring the views from 25 floors up. Little did we know that upon arrival at 665 Degrees, that view would be trumped by the absolutely stunning panoramic vista we were greeted by.

All of the dishes on the menu are free of alcohol (and pork), but fret not; the wine list is decent with bottles starting at $55++. The food is also reasonably priced compared to other steakhouses; grain-fed Australian hanger steak starting at $35++, with prices rising for cuts like sirloin, ribeye, and tomahawk.

We ordered the half yellow chicken, hangar steak, and a few veggie dishes, and it came with tasty sauces on the side including mushroom, bearnaise, and green peppercorn. The veggie portions were very generous, and the meats were seasoned well and tender. Props also go to the staff who were happy to accommodate special requests. This time around we only tried one of the steaks on the menu, so next time we’ll be bringing a few more meat eaters to see how the others stand up.

UJ Tidbit:

665 Degrees is great for a date or an intimate dinner with a small group of friends. We also see it being a good rainy-day spot when you’re in the mood for something cosy. Definitely start your meal with a pre-dinner drink in at the lobby bar, as the views are lovely and give a good preview of what’s to come. And if you’re up for a nightcap after your meal, head to Mr. Stork upstairs and soak in the city views.
