MARINA BAY - Adding to Singapore’s lengthy list of celebrity restaurants is Pizzeria Mozza, a joint venture by Mario Batali, Nancy Silverton and Joe Bastianich, and the second sister to the wildly popular original Pizzeria Mozza in Los Angeles. As the name suggests, the focus here is on pizza and really great cheese, but you’ll also find other delicious Italian creations in the Antipasti, Insalate, Carne and Panini sections on the menu.
Why you should come here:
Sure it’s in a mall, but The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands is known for having more upscale eateries, and Pizzeria Mozza falls in that category. That’s not to say that they’re formal and stuffy though—on the contrary, the wooden tables and soft lighting give a warm and inviting vibe, and the dining room is usually pretty buzzing with people from all walks of life sharing pizzas and indulging in great vinos from the all-Italian wine list. Plus, the three celebrities behind the restaurant didn’t get to be famous for nothing. They definitely know a thing or two about good produce, good preparation and creating tasty dishes.
What we love:
The pizzas here are unique because they use a special recipe for the dough that includes special yeast and flour flown in from America. The result is a light and fluffy crust that has a good bit of chew when you bite into it. They have quite a few pizzas to choose from, but we’re big fans of the Burrata with silky cheese, slow-roasted vine tomatoes that provide a bright pop of flavour, and Sicilian oregano for a hint of herb. We also recommend trying some of the antipasti like the Prawns al Forno with potato and salsa Romesco or the Fried Goat Cheese with Umbrian Lentils.
If you want to immerse yourself totally in the experience and try to forget that you’re in a mall, grab a chair that faces the wall of wine or the long counter in front of the pizza ovens, so you can watch the chefs in action.
Pizzas range from $20++ to $38++, and glasses of Italian wine start at $21++.
