Where do you go when you’re craving sushi and sashimi? With so manyJapanese restaurantsto choose from in Singapore, we have a few go-tos, and Sakuraya Fish Mart is one of our top choices when we’re craving an easy-going Japanese meal that also goes easy on the wallet. Sakuraya is actually a chain with three homey, hole-in-the-wall locations around town that are part restaurant and part retail shop, and each consistently delivers on quality, service, and price points.
Our experience:
The menu is small and straightforward with your usual sushi and sashimi suspects, as well as seasonal fish done up either grilled or fried. Check out the chiller for the daily selections flown in fresh from Japan, and once you’ve made your choice, the chefs will whip up your meal to order. Want to make your own sushi at home? They’ve got you covered with everything from the fish to the nori, and even the rice vinegar to flavour the rice.
Why we’ll be back:
The no-frills vibes always make us feel right at home, and the prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients. We love that you can just rock up to the counter to place your order and grab your own sake out of the fridge. It’s also cool that they have a a decent selection of authentic Japanese products like sweets, noodles, teas, and beer.

This is a great place for a weekday sushi dinner when you don’t want to think too hard about your meal. Just pick and point and you’re good to go.
