CHINATOWN - terra is a Tokyo-Italian omakase restaurant, the first of its kind in Singapore, run by the young, charming and very talented Seita Nakahara, who is a native of Japan. Omakase means “the chef’s choice” and with Seita at the helm of the kitchen, we’d let him choose any day! Seita uses imported Japanese ingredients to create achingly beautiful interpretations of classic Italian dishes. This is the real Tokyo-Italian experience right here – not fusion by any means but the culture of authentic Italian food that has been richly and deeply rooted in Japan for over a century.
Why you should come here:
Hands down, number one reason: for the food. Ingredients are flown in from Japan almost daily, full freshness and amazing flavours that are hard to beat. The ambience is cosy and the staff attentive; terra has every making of your new and perennially favourite restaurant.
What we love:
The Uni Bruschetta as a starter is a big fat must, with a generous serving of uni atop a crispy, warm bruschetta – perfect to kick off your meal. We highly recommend doing the omakase simply because this is Seita’s specialty and you really won’t regret it. Speak to the friendly waiter, tell him your likes, dislikes, allergies (if any) and leave it up to the chef. Trust us, whatever Seita cooks, you are always in for a treat.
The wine sommelier here is knowledgeable beyond his years, and knows Seita’s style of cooking like the back of his hand, meaning that the wine pairing option is a must-have.
From a young age, Seita was inquisitive around the kitchen, leading to many experiments and explorations of flavours often with just one dish until it was perfect. This same sense of exploration led him to Italy to follow his passion for the cuisine and knock on doors of restaurants, learning not just the cooking but also the language. Today, Seita hand-makes the pasta…and his sauces…and his home-cured bottarga…and more!
