Finding a nice spot to have a glass of vino in Singapore is easy, but finding a nice spot where you can sample organic wines and farm-to-table fare... now that’s a whole other story. We recently came across RVLT and were pretty impressed with the whole concept they’ve got going on. Hidden away in a dark, cozy space on Carpenter Street, this funky wine bar offers an eclectic collection of natural wines and innovative dishes to pair with your pours.

Why you should come here:

RVLT actually began life as Wine RVLT, a pop-up spot on Killiney Road where you could sample natural wines from around the world. When Chef Manel Valero (previously at FoodBar Dada, Moosehead and Kilo) met with owners Alvin Gho and Ian Lim and suggested a fresh new concept, they were quick to agree. The new 60-seater spot carries on the concept of organic, biodynamic wines, but offers plenty more space and globally-inspired dishes made with produce from sustainable farms in Singapore and neighbouring countries.

What we love:

Step inside the dimly lit space and you’ll find a mix of high and low tables, banquettes and a bar backed by shelves filled with wine bottles from areas as diverse as Sicily, Australia, Croatia and Georgia. The atmosphere is pretty chill and the friendly service adds to the sense that even though this a wine connoisseur’s dream, the vibe is anything but pretentious.

The menu changes often, so there are always new dishes to try, and there is a good selection of eats for vegetarians and meat-eaters. And of course the wine selection is excellent. We ordered a bottle of the La Tranchee, which is a lovely, light organic red. We also decided to go for the omakase menu and were not disappointed.

Favourite dishes included the Wagyu Tasty Toasties ($14), the Salt-vinegar Spring Onion Tempura ($12), which gave us a new love for spring onions, the Crab, Kohlrabi & Tamarind ($21), and the “A La Plancha” Prawns ($24). However, the winner of the night was definitely the Leeks, Pumpkin Seeds, Tonburi & Goji Berries ($18), a fabulous fusion of textures and well-balanced flavours that just popped. We ended the meal on another high note with a beautiful Cheese Platter ($21).

UJ Tidbit:

Although the vibe is cozy, there is plenty of space to spread out here, making this an ideal spot for group gatherings. And if you come across a bottle of vino you absolutely fall in love with, you can buy a bottle or three to take home.

A five-course omakase menu will set you back $60++ with the option to add wine pairings for $38++ for three glasses.
