Yellow Pot: Sustainable Modern Chinese Food in a Beautiful Setting at Six Senses Duxton

Sustainable Modern Chinese Food in a Beautiful Setting at Six Senses Duxton

Since the day it opened in the gorgeous new Six Senses Duxtonboutique hotel, Yellow Pot has been making a stir in the foodie scene for its elegant Oriental-inspired interiors and authenticChinese cuisine. Six Senses is known for their contemporary design and commitment toholistic wellness, so we were intrigued to see how that would translate to the restaurant. We went for a tasting shortly after Yellow Pot debuted, and we instantly knew this was a spot we needed to come back to again for a more personal experience.

Our experience:

We made our second trip to Yellow Pot on a Friday night and it was about 80 percent full, which made for a great energy in the beautifully decorated space. The restaurant is long and narrow with tables along the windows on one side and semi-private rooms on the other. We had a table across from one of the private rooms, and we have to say that the acoustics were pretty strange with the noise from the room coming directly at us.

That being said, the service was attentive, pleasant, and professional, and the menu has a great selection of dishes made with fresh ingredients that come from sustainable sources like local farmers and fishermen. We also love the fact that there are no additives, so the true flavours of the produce really shine through.

Standout dishes for us included the stir-fried, grass-fed beef tenderloin ($36, pictured below) and braised duck with herbal soy sauce ($32), both of which were super lean tasting. We’re not actually huge duck fans, but this one had a nice modern taste to it. The Sichuan chicken ($24) was also tasty, but be warned—it’s crazy spicy! We thought we had our spice tolerance up, but obviously not enough. Vegetarians have some good options too, and you can call ahead if you have any dietary restrictions.

Would we go back?

Yep! With great ambiance, polished service, and tasty Chinese food that’s also sustainable and clean, Yellow Pot ticks the right boxes for us. The prices are pretty reasonable too, which is always a bonus. We reckon this would be agood spot to bring out-of-town guests, a lovely gathering place for aspecial celebration, or just a nice place to go when you’re looking for a good meal in a chic setting. They also have a set lunch menu that would be good for abusiness lunch.

UJ Tidbit:

We weren’t super impressed with the wine selection, so if you’re planning on having a few glasses of vino with your meal, you may want to look into the BYOB option.

Damage:

The prices are pretty reasonable with dinner running about $80++ with a drink.
