The 12 Best Places to Buy a Loaf of Sourdough

by URBAN JOURNEY

There’s something about sourdough that’s just so damn addictive. Maybe it’s the gorgeous nutty brown crust, the moist, chewy inside, or the balance of sweetness, earthiness, and yeastiness. Fun fact: sourdough dates back to at least ancient Egyptian times and it was probably discovered by accident when someone (a genius if you ask us!) left a mixture of water or milk and ground-up grains out the open air, which allowed wild yeasts in the air to settle into the mix. While sourdough is not too difficult to make on your own, it does take time, so we’ve put together this handy list of stellar bakeries where you can grab expertly crafted sourdough loaves to take home. (Ranked in no particular order).
