Chinoiserie

When one of Singapore’s most internationally renowned chefs opens up a new fine dining spot, you just know it’s going to be something special. Chinoiserie is chef Justin Quek’s latest venture and a chance for him to get really innovative with his signature Franco-Asian cuisine. Expect luscious creations like the foie gras xiao long bao, seasonal catch of the day with Straits sweet and sour sauce, and wok-fried Hokkien noodles with lobster.

Ganglamedo

Tibetan food isn’t easy to find in this neck of the woods, so we were super intrigued to hear about Ganglamedo, an elegant new spot that serves up artfully prepared Tibetan dishes with a clean-eating twist. Everything on the menu is vegetarian and organic, but this isn’t your usual rabbit food fare. Instead, you’ll find nourishing soups with herbaceous cordyceps, meaty pan-fried morels, and mapo tofu with cane pepper powder. Plus, the gorgeous decor alone is worth a visit.

Ganglamedo, 40 Craig Road, Singapore 089678. p. +65 6423 9788. Open daily 11:30am – 3pm, 6pm – 9:30pm

Greenwood Fish Market (Dempsey)

Seafood fans, Greenwood Fish Market is now in Dempsey. This 8300 square foot space houses a wholesale seafood market, lounge, restaurant, and even a floral market. The space is nice and spread out so you have plenty of room to dig into their delicious platters.

Jypsy

The PS. Cafe group recently unveiled their easy-going Japanese spot Jypsy and it’s already winning over fans big time. The atmosphere is laid-back and a bit beachy with hanging lanterns, lots of different shades of wood, and lush green plants in shuttered windows. The food is also inspired by the sea with offerings like ultra-fresh sashimi, lobster and crab gyoza, and salmon tacos. Be sure to save room for some of their yuzu soft serve sorbet and matcha cream puffs.

Mo & Jo Sourdough Burgers

Mo & Jo Sourdough Burgers offers… you guessed it, good ol’ burgers. But what sets them apart from the run-of-the-mill is the quality of the ingredients. Think grain-fed Australian beef, whole-wheat sourdough buns, and homemade sauces and pickles. Grab a seat at the counter and watch the chefs grill and assemble in the open kitchen or settle in on the patio, which happens to be dog-friendly. We love that they also do weekend brekkie items with bottomless filter coffee.

Nostra Cucina

Fams of Osteria and Pizzeria Mozza in Marina Bay Sands will be happy to know that the space has now reopened as Nostra Cucina with the entire team back on board. The concept is home-style Italian cuisine with dishes made in-house from scratch like fresh handmade pastas, pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven, and succulent seafood and grilled meats. There’s also a sommelier on hand to help guide you through the wine list that includes over 700 bottles from diverse regions in Italy.

Papi’s Tacos

Papi’s Tacos opened in late-July, and after just one visit we were hooked. Brought to us by the Employees Only team, this cool new taco joint reminds of hip little spots we used to hit up in NYC. The menu is pretty straight-forward with offerings like tacos, burritos, and quesadillas, and everything we’ve tried has been fresh and packed with flavour. We’re huge fans of the fish and shrimp tacos, none of fried for a nice change. Beware of the ghost chili sauce—it’s a burner! Read our full review here
