Planning a Trip to Margaret River? 10 awesome AirBnBs You’ll Never Want to Leave

by URBAN JOURNEY

We live for long weekends in Margaret River. Lazy days wandering through beautiful wineries sipping onred, white, and rose, eating our way around cosy cafes and restaurants, pottering around farmers markets, hitting thebeachfor long walks, and taking advantage of Australia’s ability to craft the perfect cup of coffee are just a few ways we love to while away the time. With Perth only a five-hour plane trip away (plus a few hours drive south in a car, but let’s skip over that part), Margs is just close enough to squeeze in over a long weekend. And we reckon the next time you visit it’s worth ditching the hotels and Airbnb-ing it instead. And just because we’re nice like that, we’ve scoured the listings so you don’t have to; here’re our top picks of rentals that are perfect for romantic getaways, group holidays, or chilled downtime with the fam.

Best for… retro vibes and a time warp to the 70’s:LULU, the 70s caravan in the garden, sleeps 2 / $138 per night

This brilliantly bonkers caravan is what chintzy dreams are made of. Permanently parked at the back of hosts Michael and Britta’s large organic garden, it’s the perfect spot if you’re looking for something cosy and quirky. Located to the west of Margaret River town and overlooking the river valley and National Park, it’s great for being close to amenities and nature alike. Not for peeps looking for five-star luxury; bathroom facilities are basic. But what it lacks in sophistication it makes up for in character, and by all accounts, the hosts are delightful to boot.

Best for… modern minimalists:Modern & Minimal, sleeps 6, $404 per night

If clean lines, muted colour palettes, and light airy space is your jam, this place is where it’s at. Located in the heart of Margaret River, this fully-equipped home is a chic base from which to conduct your wine research (read *getting tipsy at every winery within walking distance*). There’s even a neat garden and decking area out back to enjoy an al fresco BBQ.

Best for… group getaway with friends:Calistoga Chalet, sleeps 6, $426 per night

Round up the troops and head to this beaut of a house (think wood burners, contemporary kitchen, indoor and al fresco dining areas, plus cosy bedrooms all in a stunning, and private, location surrounded by nature). We can’t think of a better place to retire to after a hard days wine tasting.

Best for… Affordable luxury:Selador, sleeps 6, $324 per night

A mere five minutes from the beach, wineries, local markets and adjacent to Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park, Selador wins on the location front. We love the minimalist chic decor and beautiful fireplace in the centre of the living space (oh to be sat around the flames with a glass of red in hand!). Though technically it sleeps six, two of the party will be on mattresses on the floor; stick to a group of four so you can all take advantage of the beautiful bedrooms and sunken baths.

Best for… all out luxury, and golf:The White House, sleeps 6, $373 per night

This secluded spot within the native bushlands of Wallcliffe Farm is insanely beautiful. Aside from pretending to be the US President, fill your days with trips to nearby Gnarabup beach, wineries, caves, and a very handy golf course. We love the chic yet homely decor, massive living space, and sprawling grounds.

Best for… stargazing, sunsets, and stunning views:Stargazer Lookout, sleeps eight, $480 per night

For stunning panoramic views of ancient grasslands, gum trees, and granite outcrops, this is the spot. We love the floor to ceiling bi-fold windows that surround the north wing of the house, allowing a stream of natural light to flood into the main living areas. Pull up a pew on the verandah, crack open a bottle of Margaret River’s finest, and enjoy the insane vistas as the sun sets and the stars come out. A little nook of natural beauty that will leave you feeling zen.

Best for… glamping:The Airstream, sleeps 2, $160 per night

If you’ve always dreamed of escaping the rat race and embracing a nomadic lifestyle, the Airstream is for you. It’s mainly parked up at Prevelly Caravan Park (no, you can’t tow it around), which is close to the beach and Margaret River town. It’s fully kitted out with everything you could possibly need, from hammocks and outdoor seating to the obligatory coffee machine and milk frother; one for vintage glamping lovers and hipster wannabes.

Best for… boho beachy bliss:The Turquoise Cottage, sleeps 2, $133 per night

Nestled on the coast of Yallingup, this beautiful stone-walled beach house is a cute spot for a romantic getaway. The front of the property overlooks Yallingup beach, while at the back there is easy access to coastal and bush trails, plus top coffee on tap courtesy of nearby cafes. If surfing is on the agenda, you couldn’t be better placed.

Best for… rustic luxury:Dutch Tent House, sleeps 2, $266 per night

Located on a vineyard in Yallingup, you can’t stay closer to the wine source than this! Don’t be fooled by the word ‘tent’, this is a fully equipped house that just so happens to be made from canvas. Expect a cosy wood fire, indoor shower bathroom, solid wooden flooring, comfy sofas, a separate master bedroom, plus electricity and running water inside the tent. What’s more, there’s a crackin’ view of the vineyard’s lake when you peel back the tent door. Perfect spot to watch the world awaken with your morning cuppa.

Best for… a romantic getaway:Moana Deluxe Villa, $381 per night

Treat your SO to something super special with a getaway at this classy villa that’s part of the Yallingup Luxury Retreat complex. For those who appreciate the finer things in life, you won’t be disappointed; think four-poster bed and spacious living and kitchen area that opens on to a beautifully maintained Balinese-esque garden complete with decking area. The only problem is, you probably won’t want to leave and explore the nearby wineries, restaurants, and beach!
