The Spirit of New Orleans Arrives at Junior the Pocket Bar

by URBAN JOURNEY
Junior The Pocket Bar

The ethos behind Junior is one of the freshest drinking concepts to hit Singapore in recent years. Brought to us by The Proof Collective and the team behind28 HongKong Street, this pocket-sized bar (it only seats 10) is a boozy nook that champions a new theme every six months. It launched witha Mexican bangat the back end of 2017 and had us going loco over myriad ofmezcals, tequila, and Mexicana bites. And this time, it’s the turn of New Orleans to get the Junior treatment. By all accounts, it sounds epic.

Its latest concept entitled Magnolia is named after the quintessentially Southern states flower, and a celebration of all things NOLA is on the agenda; from its cracking cocktail culture (the Sazerac, Ramos Gin Fizz, Brandy Milk Punch, and Brandy Custa were all invented in New Orleans) and Creole cuisine, to jazzy music and mardi gras party vibes. Magnolia has it all.

Unsurprisingly, the cocktail menu sounds top. Divided into four unique sections –Friskin’ the Whiskers Lickin’ The Chops,Let The Good Times Roll,Playin’ the Hits Blowin’ Changes, andThe Second Line –expect classic drinks, modern twists, and punchy flavours from a menu that features everything from brandy and rum, to crème de menthe and mother’s ruin based tipples.

The bar bites stick to theme with a menu featuring the likes of dirty rice balls with pimento cheese dip, fried okra in Cajun spice with Old Bay aioli, daily po’ boys, and freshly-fried beignets. Yum. Told you it sounds awesome, we’ll see you at the bar.

Junior, 43 Tanjong Pagar Road, 088464 (look for the sign in the alleyway behind Crackerjack, on Cook Street), t. 8121 1462. Open Mon – Sat: 7 pm – 12 am
