Stranger’s Reunion

by URBAN JOURNEY

Ryan Kieran Tan is the World Siphon Coffee champion, three-time Singapore National Barista Latte Art champion, and one-time ASEAN Barista champion, so it should come as no surprise that he and his co-founder’s cafe, Stranger’s Reunion focuses on great beans and great brews.

Why you should come here:

The vibe inside is rustic and cosy, and the baristas behind the coffee bar can hook you up with all sorts of bevvies including their famous ‘Magic’ coffee, which is a double ristretto mellowed out with steamed milk. They’ve also got tempting cakes and pastries, a great brunch menu, and sandwiches, pastas and grilled fish and meats for lunch and dinner.

What we love:

The baristas here are super skilled, so the coffee comes out tasting great and looking like a work of art. The food is not too shabby either with delish brunch offerings like the Halloumi, Corn & Zucchini fritters with sauteed baby spinach, fresh avocado, tomato relish and a perfectly poached egg, and the to-die-for Buttermilk Pancakes with fun toppings like espresso butter and spice-infused coffee syrup. In fact, their waffles are so popular that they opened up Waffle Slayer next door to keep up with demand.

UJ tidbit:

Stranger’s Reunion gets pretty packed out on weekends, so you may want to come during down times to avoid long wait times. If you still can’t snag a seat, you can always try Waffle Slayer next door or Ryan’s new cafe called Curious Palette on Prinsep Street.

Damage:
About $19++ and above for a coffee and a meal
