5 Bars with Live Music

by URBAN JOURNEY

There’s no disputing that Singapore has some seriously good nightlife going on. One of our favourite ways to while away the after-dark hours is hitting up a chilled out bar and listening to live bands. From laid back spots where you can groove out with a few good friends to raise-the-roof type spots where the licks come fast and hard, these are some of Singapore’s best live music spots (ranked in no particular order).

1. The Beast

The down South vibes and huge selection of bourbon make The Beast a unique chill out spot where you can listen to great tunes with a glass of Booker’s in hand. Behind the bar you’ll also find tons of American craft beers like Magic Hat #9 and Dead Guy Ale, and the kitchen serves up great Southern comfort food like Chicken & Waffles with a bourbon maple butter sauce, and Shrimp & Grits. You can catch the bands on Thursdays and Fridays from 7pm to close.

2. Timbre

Probably the most popular live music spot in the city, Timbre offers a huge variety of acts playing every single night of the week at all three of their locations. Depending on the night you rock up, you can expect to hear lively rock renditions, soulful blues, top 40s covers or cool indie jams. They also get rave reviews for their buffalo wings and thin crust pizzas with toppings like Philly cheese steak, roasted garlic shrimp, or yakiniku chicken.

3. Going Om

This funky little spot is located in a refurbished shophouse in the middle of Haji Lane, which is super cool because when the bands start to play outside from about 9pm onwards, people actually get up and dance in the streets. The vibes here are super laid back and the tunes are acoustic, so this is a fab spot to go if you’re looking for a few relaxed drinks along with some easy-going tunes.

4. &Sons

&Sons is a trendy little trattoria where you can indulge in rustic Italian fare and fine wines. Come on a Wednesday or Friday evening and you can also listen to local bands belt out a mix of covers and their own creations from 8pm onwards. The ambiance here is pretty chilled even when the live music is going off, so it makes for a great date spot or a place to grab some small plates and glasses of vino with a few friends.

5. Wala Wala

Located in Holland Village, Wala Wala has been around for years, so it’s somewhat of a local institution especially when it comes to live music. Spread over two levels, there is a buzzy restaurant on the ground floor serving up comfort food like chicken wings, caesar salads and grilled lamb chops. Upstairs you’ll find live bands rocking out every night of the week starting at 7pm on weekdays and 9:30pm on weekends.
