This summer, the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 is set to electrify the cricketing world with the game’s shortest and most dynamic format. As teams from around the globe prepare to clash, the tournament promises to showcase explosive batting, top-tier talent, strategy, and athleticism.

Scheduled in iconic venues across the West Indies and the US, the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 promises to be a battleground for seasoned veterans and young guns. Think the likes of Rohit Sharma, David Warner, and Kane Williamson playing their last World Cup to emerging stars like Cameron Green, Yashaswi Jaiswal, & Alzarri Joseph — each aiming to etch their names in cricket history.

As the cricket community comes together to celebrate the game’s unification, fans can look forward to witnessing high-stakes games where every run counts and every wicket can turn the tide.

The first match of the tournament will be held at the Grand Prarie Stadium in Dallas Texas on June 1, 2024. The tournament finishes off on June 29, 2024 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

There will be a total of 55 matches throughout the month across the US and the West Indies.

US and the West Indies: Pioneering Co-Hosts of the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024

With the United States and the West Indies at the helm as co-hosts, it will be the first ICC World Cup tournament to feature matches played on American soil. This marks a significant milestone — highlighting the region’s merging interest in cricket despite its historically limited presence in the American sports landscape.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has finalized three venues across the United States: Lauderhill, Dallas, and the under-construction Nassau County Stadium in New York. The latter is poised to become a focal point of the tournament, hosting the highly anticipated match between cricket powerhouses India and Pakistan on June 9th at 10:30am EST.

The West Indies, no stranger to cricket fervor, is set to complement the US with six exceptional venues across Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, St Lucia, St Vincent & The Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago. The Super Eight and Semi Final and Finals will all take place in the West Indies. It’s truly an exciting time and huge moment for the region. As Dona Regis-Proper, Secretary General & CEO, Caribbean Tourism Organization, states:

In June, the Caribbean will proudly host the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, serving as a global stage for showcasing our exceptional hospitality, cultural richness, and sporting ability. As we welcome teams and cricket enthusiasts from around the world, it is critical for us to connect with a global audience, fostering international goodwill and strengthening the bonds between our Caribbean nations and the rest of the world. This global event will be viewed by millions of people worldwide. We must not forget that every viewer is a potential visitor.”

For the First Time in the History of the T20 Cricket World Cup: A 20-team Lineup

For the first time in its illustrious history, the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 comprises 20 cricket-passionate nations divided into four distinct groups. This represents a significant milestone in the tournament’s history, aimed at broadening participation to include a wider array of associate nations.

The participating teams for the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 were determined through automatic qualification and regional qualifiers. Leading the charge with automatic entries were the top eight teams from the 2022 edition (Australia, England—the reigning champions, India, Pakistan, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka), alongside the two hosts (USA and West Indies) that earned direct pass into the tournament.

Additionally, Afghanistan and Bangladesh clinched their spots through their standings in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings as of November 14, 2022, rounding out the automatic qualifications. The journey to the World Cup also saw a critical pathway carved out through regional competitions, determining the remaining eight contenders. This diverse qualifying landscape brought together teams from across the globe, including two each from Africa, Asia, and Europe, and one each from the Americas and East Asia-Pacific regions.

In July 2023, Ireland and Scotland secured their spots in the tournament from the Europe Qualifier, followed by Papua New Guinea from the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier. Canada earned its spot in October 2023 after defeating Bermuda in the Americas Qualifier. Likewise, Nepal and Oman qualified for the tournament in November 2023 after reaching the final of the Asia Qualifier. Namibia and Uganda completed the lineup as the final two teams to qualify, ensuring a top-two finish in the Africa Qualifier. The selected 20 nations are categorized into four groups as follows:

Group A: India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, USA

Group B: England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, Oman

Group C: New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda, Papua New Guinea

Group D: South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Nepal
