In the midst of all thisMichelinhoo-ha, we at Urban Journeystill curate our restaurant picks based on the best food, quality and overall experience, which includes ambiance, service, value for money and good vibes. For us, Michelin is not necessarily our culinary bible when we’re choosing where to eat around town. Having said that, we do agree with some of their choices, although we were a little miffed thatTerralost their star. Out of all the Michelin-starred restaurants around town, these are the ones that we think stand out from the rest and the ones that we personally recommend.
Crystal Jade Golden Palace
When it comes to upscale Chinese food, Crystal Jade Golden Palace is definitely at the top of our list. As soon as you step inside the elegant high-ceilinged dining room, you know you’re in for a treat as the decor is contemporary and sleek without being stuffy, the service is polished and professional, and the menu boasts decadent Teochew and Cantonese dishes like the Chilled Yellow Cream Crab in Teochew style, Stir-Fried Ramen with Lobster in XO Sauce, and Roasted Suckling Pig with Black Truffle Pearl Rice. We suggest coming here for a corporate lunch, a leisurely dim sum brunch, or a group celebration with friends and family.

Take for example their summer menu with inventive offerings like the Octopus with XO sauce, sunchoke and radicchio and the Iberico Pork Pluma with potato, kailan and kimchi. Be sure to try their cocktails too because they’ve got some pretty creative concoctions like the Rising Sun with vodka, kimchi juice, egg whites and pear.

Chef Shinji Kanesaka seems to be somewhat of a Michelin star collector, as his original restaurant in Tokyo, Sushi Kanesaka, has two stars, and now each of his two Singapore ventures have earned their own single stars. No matter whichShinji by Kanesakavenue you choose, you can expect the highest quality fresh seafood flown in from Tsukiji Market and artfully prepared in the Edomae style by true sushi masters who have spent years honing their craft. Although the omakase set menus are pricey, we believe the whole experience is worth every penny.
