Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer: New York’s Burger, Beer & Shake Joint at Marina Bay Sands

by URBAN JOURNEY

When you’re craving classic American comfort food, you can’t go wrong with Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer. This award-winning burger joint got its start as a small 16-seater spot in SoHo, New York, and quickly became famous for theirthick, juicy burgerstopped with all sorts of good stuff. You may have also heard of their CrazyShake™ milkshakes, which went so viral that owners Chris Barish and chef Joe Isidori decided to trademark them. Today, Black Tap has venues all over the States, in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, including right here in Singapore at MBS.

Our experience:

Black Tap has been creating such a buzz for their burgers and shakes that we weren’t surprised to rock up and find lines going out the door. We didn’t mind waiting though because the space is actually very pleasant with natural light pouring in from the glass walls and ceilings, cool decor like black and white checked tiles, and a great vibe going on.

Once we did manage to grab a seat, our first order was the signature All-American Burger with a substantial patty made from a blend of chuck and lean beef served on a fluffy bun with lettuce, tomato, pickles, American cheese, and Black Tap’s special secret sauce. We loved that the burger was cooked medium rare with a great sear on the outside and super juicy in the middle. As far as burgers go, this one is pretty much perfection.

We also tried the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with a deep-fried chicken breast done up korean BBQ style, buttermilk coleslaw, cilantro, fresh lime, and spicy mayo and the Falafel Burger with a crunchy falafel patty, tahini, pickled onion, Greek feta, and hummus. Both were super tasty and great alternatives for those who aren’t huge red meat fans. Other enticing options include their burger salads, guac and chips, and chicken wings.

Would we come back?

For sure. If you work near MBS, this is a great spot to grab a burger for lunch, and if you’re feeling super indulgent, you can toss in a shake. We’ve been by a few times and there were lines each time, but hopefully the lines aren’t as intense now. This is also a great place to hit up if you have a serious junk food craving going on, or eyeing a spot for after-work beers, that can easily turn into an impromptu dinner.

Of course we had to try one of the infamous CrazyShake™ milkshakes just to see what the hype was all about. These monstrous creations come in a range of flavours like cotton candy, peanut butter, and cake batter and they’re loaded up with an insane amount of toppings like peanut butter cups, Oreo cookies, and even a whole slice of cake. Honestly, they’re super Instagrammable, but pretty intense. After one sip we could definitely feel the sugar setting in. We suggest splitting one between two or even three people, and be sure to slurp it up before it starts to melt.
