Spago’s Stellar Set Lunch: The Perfect Way to Spend an OOO (Out of Office) Friday Afternoon

by URBAN JOURNEY

Here’s the scenario: it’s noon on a Friday, and you’re hungry. You’ve already managed to clear out your inbox and tie up all your tasks for the week, so you’re thinking about switching on the OOO (out of office) auto-reply and treating yourself to a leisurely set lunch to get your weekend started early. We recently did just that at Spago by Wolfgang Puck and can’t recommend it enough. If you happened to see our Marina Bay Sands Lunch Guide, then you may have picked up on the excellent set lunch deal they have going on where you can get three divine courses for just $48++

Our experience:

We were really excited to try the set lunch at Spago because it’s not often that you find fine dining fare at such a brilliant price. This is one of the top restaurants in Singapore (quite literally as it’s on the 57th floor of Marina Bay Sands overlooking the city skyline), so snagging a lunch for under $50 is pretty darn amazing. Plus, the Express Prix Fixe menu gives you plenty of options for starters and mains, which is not always the case with some set lunches.

If you’re craving something fresh and wholesome to start, we suggest the Weiser Farm’s baby beet salad. This colourful plate comes with earthy beets, tangy goat cheese, crunchy hazelnuts and a zippy citrus-shallot dressing. We also recommend the Chicken ‘Laksa’ Spring Roll and the Big ‘Eye’ Tuna Tartare Cones.

Then if you really want to treat yourself, order up the grilled Angus beef burger. We’re not sure whether it was the juicy beef patty, the mix of melted gruyere and aged cheddar, or the smoky onion-jalapeno marmalade that put this over the top for us, but we can honestly say that this is one of the best burgers in Singapore that we’ve ever had. The menu has some other great sounding options which we are definitely going to be back for, although the burger is going to be hard to turn down.

About:

Spago Singapore is the first international branch of Wolfgang Puck’s famous Beverly Hills restaurant, and you’ll find the same style of fresh, California cuisine that earned the chef worldwide fame. Angle for a seat next to one of the huge windows for incredible views out to the MBS infinity pool and the skyscrapers beyond. The set lunch includes three courses: your choice of a starter and main and a lovely panna cotta for dessert. If you want to make your lunch boozy, they also have great cocktails and wines on offer.

UJ Tips:

Whether you’re lunching with the ladies or the boys, this is a killer spot for a Friday afternoon lunch. The dining room is beautiful, the ambiance is great and the food is perfection. And that burger! We’re telling you, the burger is reason alone to put that OOO reply on so you can take as much time as you need savouring every bite.
