How cool is it when you stumble across anewwatering hole just steps from your office and find out that it totally rocks? This was our experience with The Guild, a new kid on theKeong Saikblock just a short stroll from our HQ at The Working Capitol. This cool contemporary pub has a great easy-going ambiance, cold craft beers on tap, and a menu featuring innovative comfort food dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.

About our experience:

As soon as we walked into The Guild, we were greeted with a huge round bar in the centre of the room, which was perfect for our mission of grabbing a few bevvies before having some bites. The bartenders made us feel right at home and gave us a run-down of the different beers on tap that start at $8++ for 200ml pours, so you can try quite a few without breaking the bank. They also have a great selection of highballs and smattering of naturalwineson offer. We’re not sure how we feel about the whole natural wine trend that’s going on at the mo’, but hey—less chemicals can’t be a bad thing right?

After downing a few drinks, we moved to one of the low wooden tables to dig into some of their comfort food creations. We started with the Buffalo wings, which came slathered in an awesome sauce that had just the right hit of heat. For mains we opted for the Salisbury rubbed skirt steak with roasted garlic aioli, salsa verde, and laksa leaves and the mac ‘n’ cheese with scallions and a house cured egg yolk. Both were hearty, unique, and full of flavour. Our only regret was that we couldn’t fit in more, so we’ll definitely be back to make another dent in the menu. We already have our hearts set on Momma Alton’s chicken noodle soup and the butter roasted chicken.

Why we’ll be back:

The location is perfect for us because we work just down the road, so we can see ourselves heading here on a rainy day and grabbing a seat at the bar to indulge in a few cheeky drinks and moreish dishes. The laid-back vibes also make it a great spot for after-work sips and snacks. Plus, being the craft beer fans that we are, we’re excited to try a few more brews like the 1842 Island IIPA, the Rye on Wood, and the intriguing Days of Being Wild made with cherries.

UJ tidbit:

The Guild has all the makings of a supertrendy spot, so we suggest getting in there now before the crowds start pouring in. While you’re there, be sure to have a chat with the bartenders because they really know their stuff and are great at suggesting tipples to suit your tastes.

Damage:

The 200ml pours range from $8++ to $10++, natural wines start at $90++ a bottle, apps start at $6++, and mains average about $18++.
