THE SCOOP: The Inaugural World Restaurant Awards were held in Paris on 18 February. They were created by IMG in partnership with Joe Warwick (who started the World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards) and Andrea Petrini, one of the world’s most influential food crtics. The idea behind the awards is to honour and celebrate restaurants just as they do in film, art and music. Some of the categories that were presented were Collaboration of the Year, Ethical Thinking, Forward Drinking, Event of the Year and many more. The Restaurant of the Year was awarded to Wolfgat, a 20-seater establishment in South Africa.
In Singapore, Sungei Road Laksa was nominated in the House Special category and Burnt Ends received two nominations in No Reservations Required and Tweezer Free Kitchen. Asians representation on judging panel included David Chang of Momofuko and May Chow from one of our favourite restaurants in Hong Kong, Little Bao.
This is a new take on restaurant award. Lets see if it shapes the scene in terms of people performing in these categories. Read more here.
