Foodies are in for a treat this September because there are scores of restaurants in Singapore that just opened shop and are all set to be the next big thing on the dining scene. We’re talking gorgeous Instagrammable interiors, unique concepts, and of course fab food. We have our eye on a few venues that we think are worth checking out this month, including a cool collaboration between two awesome Japanese restaurants, a elegantly revamped Indian spot in the iconic Raffles Hotel, inspiring new cocktails from one of our fave Art Deco drinking dens, and some new outlets and menu offerings from F&B brands we love.
Cafes
Baker & Cook
If you love Baker & Cook, then you have to check out their new location in Dempsey. Set in a gorgeous glass structure surrounded by lush greenery, this bright and airy space is perfect for relaxing with a cup of coffee and a sweet or savoury treat. The most striking feature is the curved deli and bakery counter that takes pride of place in the centre of the room. Sidle up to the counter to snag goodies like artisan breads, buttery croissants, and colourful fruit tarts.
Baker & Cook, 30C Loewen Road, Singapore 248839. p. +65 6251 1098. Open daily 8am – 10pm
The Garden Club
CBD’ers have a lovely new spot to escape from the office and grab healthy bites for lunch or after-work drinks with the opening of The Garden Club. Perched on the 5th floor of OUE Downtown Gallery, this rooftop oasis features an al fresco dining area with loads of planters, an enticing bar, and a small stage for live music acts. The menu has something to please everyone with a good selection of vegan and plant-based dishes alongside heartier meat options.
The Garden Club, 6A Shenton Way, OUE Downtown Gallery #05-01, Singapore 068815. p. +65 6971 8265. Open Mon – Fri 9am – 12am
Plank Sourdough Pizza
Housed in the same glass house as the new Baker & Cook (see above), Plank Sourdough Pizza is another hot new addition to the Dempsey hood. This is the fifth outlet for the brand and in our opinion, the most atmospheric. Grab a seat in the spacious interior or outside in the courtyard and dig into divine pizzas with crispy sourdough crusts and toppings like lamb and fennel meatballs, buttered leeks, and balsamic onions.
Plank Sourdough Pizza, 30C Loewen Road, Singapore 248839. p. +65 6251 1108. Open Mon – Thurs 12pm – 3pm, 6pm – 10pm, Fri – Sun 12pm – 10pm
Platform.
Platform. is a chic new spot on Amoy Street that offers pour-over coffee and light bites during the day and innovative cocktails by night. The space features minimalist white decor, giving it a fresh, modern feel, yet manages to be cozy and inviting at the same time. Pop by in the day for a matcha latte and portobello sandwich with cheddar and mozzarella, then swing by after work for a refreshing cocktail or mocktail.
Platform. 19 Amoy Street #01-01, Singapore 069854. p. +65 8280 0292. Open Mon- Fri 12pm – 12am, Sat 4pm – 12am
The Providore at PLQ
East enders can now grab fresh, healthy fare and gourmet food products from the Providore without having to travel downtown. The newest branch of this beloved restaurant and retail shop is located in the brand new Paya Lebar Quarter Mall. Expect indoor and outdoor dining areas, beautiful breakfast dishes, tasty salads and sandwiches, hearty pastas, and a retail section where you can grab cheeses, charcuterie, oils, boutique wines, and more.
The Providore at PLQ, 1 Paya Lebar Link, Paya Lebar Quarter Mall #01-01, Singapore 408533. p. +65 6970 1887. Open Mon – Fri 8am – 10:30pm, Sat, Sun & PH 9am – 10:30pm
Wild Honey at South Beach Tower
One of our favourite all-day breakfast spots has opened a new CBD branch in the South Beach complex, and we couldn’t be happier. Wild Honey is renowned for their insanely good brekkie dishes that take inspiration from the owners’ global travels. Go Spanish with chorizo, potatoes and poached eggs on brioche, Tunisian with spicy shakshuka, or channel your inner New Yorker with eggs, smoked salmon and sturgeon on a house-made bagel.
Wild Honey at South Beach Tower, 26 Beach Rd, South Beach Tower #B1-18, Singapore 189768. p. +65 6214 3398. Open Mon – Fri 8am – 5pm, Sat 8am – 3pm
Restaurants
Tendon Kohaku x Man Man Unagi
Two superstars of the Japanese cuisine scene have come together to offer a collaborative dining concept in side-by-side restaurants at Clarke Quay Central. Tendon Kohaku is famous for its crispy tempura donburi bowls, while Man Man Unagi is the recipient of the Michelin Bib Gourmand for its amazing BBQ eel. There are separate menus at each 40-seater space, but diners can order special dishes that fuse the chef’s specialties.
Tendon Kohaku x Man Man Unagi, 6 Eu Tong Sen Street, Clarke Quay Central #B1-52,53, Singapore 059817. Open daily 11:30am – 4pm, 5pm – 10pm
Tiffin Room
Since undergoing renovations, Raffles has been rolling out a slew of new dining spots and the recently refurbished Tiffin Room is right up there on our bucket list. The restaurant has actually been a part of the hotel since 1892, but this sanctuary of North Indian cuisine has undergone a facelift with reinstated wooden floors and elegant touches from the early 1900s. The food is still just as moreish with an array of aromatic curries, kebabs, and fluffy naan.
Tiffin Room, 1 Beach Road, Raffles Hotel, Singapore 189673. p. +65 6337 1886. Open daily 6:30am – 10:30am, 12pm – 2pm (lunch buffet), 6:30pm – 10pm
