South Florida is a region at the southern tip of the Florida peninsula. It is made up of Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties and includes the major cities of Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

Weather and climate in South Florida

The weather in South Florida is subtropical, with warm to hot temperatures year-round. The average high temperature in Miami is 28°C (82°F) and the average low temperature is 20°C (68°F). The rainy season runs from June to November, and the dry season runs from December to May. The summer months can be especially humid.

Getting to South Florida

The most convenient way to get to South Florida is by plane. There are three major airports in the region:

Miami International Airport (MIA): This is the largest airport in South Florida and the busiest in the world. It is located in Miami and serves as a hub for several airlines.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL): This is the second-largest airport in South Florida. It is located in Fort Lauderdale and serves as a hub for several airlines.

Palm Beach International Airport (PBI): This is the smallest of the three major airports in South Florida. It is located in West Palm Beach and serves as a hub for several airlines.

In addition to these major airports, there are several smaller airports in South Florida that serve specific destinations.


South Florida is also accessible by car. There are several major highways that run through the region, including I-95, I-75, and Florida’s Turnpike. Driving to South Florida can be a scenic and enjoyable experience, but it can also be time-consuming and expensive.


Amtrak provides rail service to South Florida from several major cities in the eastern United States. The Amtrak Auto Train is a unique option that allows you to bring your car along with you on the train.


South Florida is a popular destination for cruise ships, with several major ports that accommodate large vessels. Some of the most popular cruise lines include: Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Silver Sea Cruises and many more smaller cruise lines.

Getting around South Florida:

Metrorail: Metrorail is a 25-mile elevated rail system that runs from Miami International Airport to Dadeland South. It is a convenient and affordable way to get around Downtown Miami, Coral Gables, and South Miami.

Metromover: Metromover is a free, automated people mover that runs in a loop around Downtown Miami. It is a great way to get around the city center without having to worry about parking or traffic.

Metrobus: Metrobus operates a network of buses that serve all of Miami-Dade County. It is a convenient and affordable way to get around the suburbs and outlying areas.

Tri-Rail: Tri-Rail is a commuter rail line that runs from Miami International Airport to West Palm Beach. It is a convenient way to get to the Palm Beaches from Miami.

Brightline: Brightline is a private passenger rail service that operates between Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. It is a faster and more comfortable option than Tri-Rail, but it is also more expensive.

Ridesharing: Uber and Lyft are both popular ridesharing services that operate in South Florida. They are a convenient and affordable way to get around, especially if you are not familiar with the area.

Water Taxi: Water taxis are a great way to get around the Miami Beach area. They are a fun and scenic way to see the city from a different perspective.

Biking: South Florida is a great place to bike. There are many bike paths and trails throughout the region, and many cities are becoming more bike-friendly.
