Here’s Where to Find the Best Dessert in Singapore

by URBAN JOURNEY

If you love sweet treats, then this post is for you! Singapore has no shortage of cafes and bakeries offering up decent desserts, but true sugar fiends know that not all confections are created equal. Sure, you can grab a cupcake or ice cream bar at any old place, but if you really want to indulge, there are a few places that stand out for their absolutely divine creations. Think rich chocolate cakes, silky crème brûlée, and innovative ice cream flavours. The next time a sugar craving hits, satisfy your sweet tooth with these delicious desserts in Singapore.

Awfully Chocolate

Awfully Chocolate was established in 1998 with one mission: to bring classic chocolate cake back to the masses. They started with a simple but oh-so-good version with moist chocolate cake between layers of fudge, and it was so damn delicious that the brand quickly grew from one cake shop into many. You can still sample their signature chocolate cake along with other sweet treats made by hand with premium ingredients every day. We recommend the gorgeous truffles and white chocolate crème brûlée.

Birds of Paradise

There’s always something new and exciting happening at Birds of Paradise, a Michelin-recommended gelato boutique that takes flavour inspiration from local botanicals like fruits, flowers, and spices. On any given day, the display case could be filled with innovative flavours like strawberry basil thyme, lemongrass ginger, or white chrysanthemum. They also do refreshing fruit-forward sorbets. Get yours in a thyme-infused waffle cone, a cup, or a carton to take home.

Birds of Paradise, 63 E Coast Rd, 01-05, Singapore 428776. p. +65 9678 6092. Open Sun – Thurs 12pm – 10pm, Fri – Sat 12pm – 10:30pm

Brunetti

This Italian cafe comes to us by way of Australia and offers up classic Italian dishes like pasta and risotto, along with a dizzying array of sweet treats. Step up to the dessert display case and feast your eyes on beautiful cakes, handcrafted artisan chocolate bars, and colourful fruit tarts. Our favourite section is the gelato counter where you can order up smooth, creamy scoops in flavours like cappuccino, strawberry cheesecake, and tiramisu.

Brunetti, 163 Tanglin Road, Tanglin Mall #01-35, Singapore 247933. p. +65 6733 9088. Open daily 9am – 9pm

Chalk Farm

When Chalk Farm started in 2010, it was a simple online shop selling two flavours of cakes (carrot whisky sultana and gingerbread). Now there are two brick and mortar locations where you can snap up superb cakes, loaves, and cupcakes. We love that they incorporate local recipes and flavours into the mix like the vibrant kueh salat, aromatic pandan berry cake, and sugee cake topped with vanilla icing and crunchy almonds.

Chalk Farm, 290 Orchard Road, Paragon #B1-K24, Singapore 238859. p. +65 6235 2872. Open daily 10am – 9pm & 80 Marine Parade Rd, Parkway Parade #B183M, Singapore 449269. p. +65 6348 2032.

Chocolate Origin

The name gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect from this chic cafe chain that’s wildly popular with chocoholics. Settle in with a cuppa and slice of their decadent signature cake featuring chocolate sponge, gooey ganache, and chocolate glaze. You can also pre-order the cakes to take away in a range of sizes including ‘huge’, ‘giant’ and ‘party’ for your next big gala. They also do sublime chocolate milkshakes, gelato, and cups of ice cream topped with molten lava cake.

Creamier

Don’t expect run-of-the-mill ice cream at Creamier because the staff use only the best quality ingredients to make small batches of ice cream by hand every day. You can really taste the difference in their artisan flavours like the sea salt gula melaka, blue pea vanilla, and Thai milk tea. If you really want to go all out, get a few scoops on top of their delicious golden Belgian waffles. It’s a treat and a half, but worth every calorie.

Creamier, 5A Lock Road, Singapore 108927. p. +65 6262 1087. Open Tues – Thurs 1pm – 9pm, Fri – Sat 12pm – 11pm, Sun 12pm – 10pm & 78 Yong Siak St #01-18, Singapore 163078. p. +65 6221 1076. Open Tues – Thurs 12pm – 10pm, Fri 12pm – 11pm, Sat 11am – 11pm, Sun 11am – 10pm

Dolcetto by Basilico

Tucked away in the Regent Singapore, this Italian pasticceria is a classy spot for a coffee break or an after-dinner treat. Start with a latte or cappuccino made with illy espresso, then check out the display case to see what sweet treats are on offer. We love the ricotta blueberry cheesecake and the hazelnut praline milk chocolate cake with smooth chocolate and a crunchy crust. Check out the retail section for tempting items to take home like chocolates and tarts.

Lady M

This lovely boutique cake shop hails from New York City and is famous for its mille crêpes, layered cakes made with 20 ultra thin crêpes sandwiched with luscious pastry cream and caramelised until golden on top. Go for the original recipe or branch out and try variations like the passionfruit, salted caramel, or green tea. Stop by one of the shops to try a slice or order a whole cake online and have it delivered right to your door.

LAVO

LAVO may be best known for its scenic rooftop bar and moreish Italian-American pastas and pizzas, but they also do some insanely good desserts. Our favourite is the deep-fried, double-stuffed Oreo cookie that comes with a malted vanilla milkshake. Other options include the 20-layer devil’s food cake and the olive oil cake with candied fennel and lemon olive oil gelato. Pair your dessert with a cocktail or two for the perfect date night treat.

Little Farms Cafe

Fresh healthy produce isn’t the only thing on offer at Little Farms. A number of these boutique grocery stores also have cafes where you can grab great coffee and tasty snacks. Reward yourself after a big grocery shop with a quick pick-me-up espresso and one of their sinfully good gluten-free brownies. The brownies are so fudgy and rich that you won’t even notice that you’re going gluten-free.

Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chop House

Most people go to Luke’s for the insanely good seafood, steaks and salads, ourselves included! But be sure to leave room for dessert because the selection of sweets is just as enticing. If you can only fit in one dessert, make it Luke’s famous chocolate chip cookie served with a stout milkshake on the side. The cookie is served warm so the chocolate chips get melty, and the stout milkshake is rich, creamy, and perfect for dipping the cookie.

Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chop House, 22 Gemmill Lane, Singapore 069257. P. +65 6221 4468. Open Mon – Sat 12pm – 12am & 260 Orchard Road, The Heeren #03-02, Singapore 238855 p. +65 6733 4813. Open daily 12pm – 10pm
