Despite all the bad press surrounding WeWork, we were actually led to try out the new WeWork Funan. We’re already well familiar with the co-working scene here in Singapore and understand the variety of spaces on offer, so we wanted to see what the New York-based company was all about, especially considering it’s known as the ‘mother of all co-working spaces’. Plus, the company’s presence really seems to be growing in the region, and we wanted to find out why.
WeWork is located in Funan Mall, which recently relaunched after three years of renovations and rebranding. We’ve been intrigued by Funan since its opening for the technology approach it takes and the fact that it houses innovative offerings like WeWork and Lyf, a popular co-living space with fully-serviced studios and communal living spaces geared towards digital nomads and remote workers.
The Funan location spans 40,000 square feet across two floors in the North office block and features bright and airy spaces with tons of natural light and a mix of working locations including hot seats where you can set up camp with your laptop, dedicated desks in shared offices, and chic private offices. It also boasts comfortable lounges with vibrant artworks, a brainstorming room, phone booths and conference rooms.
What sets WeWork apart from other co-working spaces is the sheer amount of extras on offer. For example, if you need a break from slogging through work, you can burn off some steam and meet new people at the ping pong tables, grab yourself a complimentary beer, or head up to the rooftop terrace for some fresh air. Helpful staff make it easy for you to sort out any issues or arrange meeting spaces and desks, and there are interesting workshops and classes on offer nearly every week.
Then of course, you have the mall outside with tons of shopping, beauty, dining and fitness venues, plus other interesting tenants including tech start-ups and travel companies, making this an all-encompassing stop for your work-life needs.
